    This session will provide home health agencies with an overview of the timelines and tasks related to the 2013 transition to ICD-10. 

    Source documents related to the ICD-10 conversion will be discussed, along with a review of the conversion timeline and operational/budgetary considerations.  Specific discussion related to comparing and contrasting ICD-9 and ICD-10, as well as as an introduction to General Equivalence Mappings (GEMS) will be included.

    Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to:
    1.  Identify source documents from the 4 Cooperating Parties that are in charge of the ICD-10 conversion & maintenance of the code set.

    2.  Recognize the limitations of ICD-9 & benefits of ICD-10.

    3.  Compare & contrast ICD-9 to ICD-10.

    4.  Explain the conversion timeline.

    5.  Recognize operational impact.

    6.  Identify primary budgetary issues.

    7.  Identify a conversion team.

    8.  Explain General Equivalence Mapping (GEM).

    CEUs are not offered.  Registration includes:

    • Access to the recorded version of the webinar.

    Speaker: Sparkle A. Sparks, PT MPT COS-C

    Sparkle has been in home care since 1994 as direct care provider, staff educator, PPS analyst, OASIS & ICD-9 coding instructor and consultant.  She draws from this extensive background to provide practical education that is both fun & effective.  Sparkle is nationally known for her humorous approach and ability to explain difficult topics in terms that everyone in home care can understand.  She has served as an advisor to and member of the Board of Medical Specialty Coding.  Sparkle is a graduate of the American Health Information Management Association's Academy for ICD-10 Coding where she earned the designation of AHIMA Approved ICD-10 Coding Instructor.  She is also the 2007 recipient of the APTA's "Excellence in Homecare Award" and is a Senior Associate Consultant with OASIS Answers, Inc.

    Jodie Boswell from Alegent Home Health will present "Providing Basic Hygiene Needs in the Home" Webinar.  This training is specifically for home health aides and will provide an overview on the care of skin, nail, hair and dental care.

    The learning objectives are:

    • Describe the anatomy and physiology of healthy and at-risk skin.
    • Understand evidenced-based protocols of care for maintaining healthy skin.
    • Identify the steps in completing nail and foot care on patients.
    • Recognize the process for combing hair and shaving the male face.
    • Review the purpose and benefit of providing oral hygiene and denture care.
